Maine Aeronautics Association - Committees and their Functions

Our Organization is divided into four major committees, each with its own tasks and areas of specialty.

Education

Tasked with the challenge of stimulating interest in aviation and aviation-related activities for Maine students, the Education Committee strives to bring the world of flight to kids. We are foused on becoming a clearinghouse of information and talent that directly supports educational interest in aviation and aerospace subjects.
Spatial Disorientation for Kids
We accomplish this through a variety of means, including support for the EAA Young Eagles Program, MECAA's (Maine Education Council for Aviation and Aerospace) ACE camp, and other programs that reach out to children. We also provide instructional materials and support for schools and teachers which help them integrate the field of aviation into their regular curriculums, and illustrating how the things we need to know as aviators tie into the fields of math and science.

Introduce aviation and aerospace to the state public school system.
Provide speakers for classroom and career day forums.
Develop and distribute aviation career literature.

Community Relations

Become a source of Information for local communities and aviation businesses
Provide a panel to participate at town and community meetings concerning issues affecting local aviation interests
Assist communities and aviation businesses to develop information concerning local issues at airport operations; such as economic and environmental impact

Commerce

Our major functions, as stated in the MAA charter, are to...

Develop and distribute literature showing business development areas around airports, such as industrial parks and future expansion plans of community airports that are favorable to commercial development
Develop and distribute literature showing tourist attractions and airports throughout the state, such as a Maine visitor Aeronautical Chart
Become a clearinghouse of information for business and visitor information

Become a source of information for legislators and the Maine Department of Transportation personnel on issues affecting aviation, related businesses, and airports within the state
Provide legislators and Maine Department of Transportation personnel with information to foster the growth of aviation within the state
Participate on panels to speak on behalf of state aviation issues
